At some point in your life, you may find yourself living in temporary lodgings. Whether it’s for education, business, personal reasons or if there’s a gap between selling your old home and buying another, temporary lodgings can be very useful. However, they can also seem very cold and sterile, particularly if you’re used to the comforts of your own home. But this shouldn’t deter you. For there are a number of great ways to help transform your temporary house into a temporary home.
First of all, you’ll want to make sure that the space you’re moving into is nice and clean. Though the rental company may well have cleaned the house prior to your move, it’s always nice to have a totally fresh start in a new place. And besides, you’re sure to need cleaning products in the coming weeks, so it makes sense to purchase them now.
Stock the Cupboards
There is perhaps nothing more lonesome and un-homely than the prospect of empty food shelves and a reliance on pizza deliveries take away curries. If you really want to make your temporary lodgings more homely and comfortable, then treat them like your home! Of course, you probably won’t want to be cooking on the days when you actually move in, but after this period, take a trip to the market or supermarket and purchase some staples such as rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes, vegetables, herbs and spices. You’ll be surprised at how a full cupboard (as opposed to an empty one) changes your mood and allows you to settle in to your new temporary home.
Make It Your Own
Obviously if your temporary home is filled with strange furniture and adorned with pictures and ornaments that you have no emotional bond to, it’s going to feel pretty weird. So why not bring over a few pictures or objects that have sentimental value to you. And whilst it would be impractical to transport loads of furniture over, you could at least rent a David Phillips furniture package, one that appeals to your taste. This will help you to personalise the space and not feel like such a stranger in your own dwelling.
Worth the Effort
Whilst your tenancy in a temporary house might not be very long, it is certainly worth taking the above steps to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible for the duration of your stay.
