With spring upon us in Heston, you may have already started your spring cleaning and cleared those cobwebs in time for summer. However, you may be looking at your dull rooms wondering what you can do to brighten them up and bring some light into your home. Well, thankfully there are a number of ways in which you can do this, from the simple DIY changes that can make a real difference to the more costly alterations you can make which will have a lasting effect on the quality and aesthetics of your Heston home. So where do you begin, and how do you start to brighten your home in time for summer?
A Lick of Paint
A simple solution to a dull room is giving it a lick of bright paint. Depending on your personal choice, the colour could be anything from sunflower yellow to pearly white. A lighter coloured paint can help to reflect the light within the room much more effectively than a dark colour, as they tend to soak up the light. If you are feeling adventurous you could always incorporate some of the colours from your garden into the room.
Clean Your Windows
Over the winter months, due to the wet weather and heating in the home, your windows may become very dirty. A very cheap and quick solution to this problem and a way to bring a little light into your home is to clean your windows and remove any dirt from them to ensure a good flow of light. An easy and inexpensive way to do this is to use vinegar and newspaper and a bit of elbow grease.
Install New Lighting
A more expensive but very effective way to increase the light in your home and bring summer inside is to install windows. These windows come in a variety of different shapes and sizes including:
French windows/doors – installing these large windows or doors can help let in a much larger amount of light, especially to rooms where there are not enough windows or that are already quite dark. It may involve a lot of work if you wish to install French windows, however the benefits are often worth it. There is no impact on the amount of space you will have in your living areas and it will add a new aspect to your home.
Sky light – If it is not possible for you to install windows or if you do not feel that they would make much of a difference, then it is worth considering installing a skylight to add a new light stream to your Heston home. Skylights come in a number of different designs and are suitable for a number of different roofs and budgets as well as being an excellent addition to those areas that are unable to accommodate a window, but would benefit from some extra light.
Sky Tunnel – If your home has an internal room or hallway that only sees daylight when a door is open then a sky tunnel may be the answer for you. It can light up a dull and dark room very effectively and simply. Installing a sky tunnel in your Heston home will mean that you can make the most of the small room that may otherwise be overlooked.
